Note: This is the FLM02B version of the Fluksometer with the following new features compared to the original (and still available) FLM02A:
- Ports 2 and 3 can now be configured either as analog (clamp) or pulse ports through the local configuration interface. This means that the FLM02B will come with either 1x analog and 4x pulse or 3x analog and 2x pulse ports. So if you do not need to attach more than one current clamp to the FLM, you can use ports 2 and 3 to hook up additional pulse-type sensors, e.g. DIN-rail meters with S0 output, water or gas probes.
- Port 6 can now be used to read out the local data port, a.k.a. P1 port, of a Dutch smart meter. All you need is a data cable with an RJ11 connector. See here for RJ11 pin numbering. Once the FLM02B is physically connected to the smart meter, it should automatically start registering its readings. The corresponding sensors will be called 'smart-main' for both electricity and gas on the Flukso dash.
- A 868MHz radio module is included on the sensor board. This RFM12B module is identical to the one used on the Jeenode. The driver on the FLM02B even speaks the Jeenode protocol, opening up a world of possibilities to extend the Fluksometer with a range of wireless sensors like temperature, humidity, movement detection. Because the full coupling between wireless sensors and Flukso back-end hasn't yet been completed, this feature is still tagged as experimental.
What is Flukso ?
Flukso is an open source web-based community metering application. Flukso allows you to accurately monitor and reduce your household electricity consumption. Do not be fooled to think that you have to spend your evenings sitting in the dark with only a small candle to light your home in order to have a low energy consumption pattern. Instead, a significant amount of savings can be achieved through improvements in energy efficiency. Comparing your electricity usage to your peers' will help trigger conversations on how to achieve this. We firmly concur with the statement that energy efficiency is the best type of alternative energy.
How does it work ?
In order to participate, you require a Fluksometer. You should install this device near your fuse box. It determines your total electricity consumption from a current clamp attached to one of the power cables. The Fluksometer also associates with your home wifi network and reports the measurements at five minute intervals to the Flukso web server. Our server logs your data in a special round-robin database, which can be consulted via the web interface. When logged in, the website displays a personalised chart similar to the live chart shown on our home page. You're able to select different time scales, add or remove other Fluksonians' data sets to the chart and change the chart's unit. Flukso thus helps you visualise your household's energy streams.
And the best of all - its all open source and hackable!
What do I need ?
You will need a home wifi network for the Fluksometer to connect to. And a power socket close to the fuse box.
